The Ashby Inn

I recently had the good fortune of helping the Ashby Inn in Paris, VA update some of their photos for the property, and did head shots for their new chef, Tom Whitaker.  I’m an avid reader of the Washington Post’s restaurant reviews and was delighted to see Tom Sietsema’s latest review of the Inn.  (Spoiler alert–it was rated very well–if you haven’t gone yet, now is the time!) Seemed like a perfect time to post some of my favorites from my recent work there.

The church is part of the Ashby and can be used for weddings!

Jennifer + David | Married! | A W Hotel Washington DC Wedding

Where to start with these two!?  Jennifer is a long time client.  I cannot express how much I admire this smart, talented, caring and beautiful woman!  She is always giving to those in need, whether its people or animals, is thoughtful in her parenting and successful in her professional life.  She’s the whole package and a total catch!  I was so happy when I found out she had found her perfect mate in David and learned of their upcoming wedding.  I was even happier when they chose me to document it!  I’m not exaggerating when I say I truly felt honored to shoot this wedding.  It was not only to join Jennifer and David, but also their kids, into one family unit–a kind of wedding that is near and dear to my heart.

The couple was married at the W Hotel in Washington DC at the height of the cherry blossom season.  It was a beautiful, albeit crowded day in the city.  Braving the crowds in the hotel, we made it up to the rooftop lounge for one of my favorite first looks ever.  They reserved the bar area for us, and we had the gorgeous backdrop of the Washington Monument through the picture windows.  I love, love, love the portraits we did up there.  With the heavy crowds, we stayed close to the hotel,  but were able to get some beautiful natural light portraits at the park across the street.

The ceremony and reception were held in the hotel.  Jennifer’s son walked her down the aisle, and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place.  The ceremony was heartfelt and emotional, an edit felt to me that the energy there was really changed after the family was officially united.  The reception was filled with an outpouring of support for the couple by all the friends and family in attendance, but especially by Jennifer’s strong group of girlfriends. It was truly awesome to see this group of women supporting her, David and the kids.  I left this wedding feeling somehow lighter, even though I was 6 months pregnant at the time!

Congratulations Jennifer and David!  It was such a pleasure documenting your day and witnessing your new beginning.

Jeanelle + Kris |Expecting! | Middleburg, VA Maternity Photographer

You may remember Jeanelle and Kris from their gorgeous wedding back in 2013 at WeatherLea Farm.  This couple has a special place in my heart, not only as clients, but as my chiropractors who have seen me through two pregnancies (Jeanelle is amazing and will keep you feeling great throughout the aches and pains of pregnancy) as well as ongoing back maintenance which has a big part in me being able to do my job–carrying around tons of equipment, being on your feet for long stretches of time and twisting into odd positions are not necessarily easy on the back!

We did Jeanelle’s session at the Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast. I love the light there, and it was also where the couple was engaged.  Enjoy!

It’s Been Awhile…

While I typically don’t post many personal updates here, today, it feels appropriate!  You see, it’s been awhile.  Awhile since I have updated here regularly. I used to be awesome at blogging every event, session, and project but lately, you could say I’ve been distracted.  Mainly by this little man:

This is Henry, who was born last summer.  As anyone who has kids knows, pregnancy, working, plus having other kids, then actually having a newborn just takes so much time and effort. Add in a healthy dose of sleep deprivation, and it’s hard to get just about anything done!  While all this time I have been working regularly, I was always so focused on delivering everything to my clients,  that I somehow got out of the habit of blogging on the regular.  I’m ready to change that now!  I’ll be going back through everything in these next few months and blogging all that I’ve missed.  There have been A LOT of events, sessions, and changes so I have much to catch up on!

One of the first things you might notice is my new logo!  I love my old logo, but had had it for so very long, I was ready for a change.  I worked with Laura Beth from Cotton Row Creative for my refreshed look, and I love it.

I am still in the process of switching everything over, so you might notice some older images and blog posts will still bear the old look, but that will change as I catch up on my blogging!

Fall Mini Sessions 2016

Though I hadn’t announced it here on the blog, I did make an announcement on my Facebook page that my latest little bundle, Henry, arrived in July.  Since his birth, I have realized even more the importance of simplifying!  In keeping with the trend, I am offering super simple fall sessions this year!  You have the choice of two options: the Classic which includes a product credit that you can use on your online gallery for things such as prints, holiday cards and photo gifts, or, the Contemporary, which includes your choice of 15 high resolution images with print release.  Sessions are the same format as in the past, 20 minutes and will be held at Legacy Park.  Instead of designating special days, I will schedule them based on your (and my) availability for weekends and evenings.  I’ll offer these through the end of November, or until the weather no longer cooperates! Email to secure your appointment!
